LISTEN OUT! NEW EVENT GIVES IDM A HOME IN AUSTRALIA

Big news: Parklife will not be happening in 2013.

Why? Fuzzy and Boomtick are focusing on creating a new event we think is desperately needed. Australia does not have a national intelligent dance music (IDM) event…until now.

Listen Out brings quality dance music to a new spectacular inner city venue in Perth this Spring; Ozone Reserve.

Listen Out is a carefully handcrafted party with a killer lineup of the dance music that really matters and a philosophy of the best, not the biggest. With a focus on substance, sound and style – we know it’s time you enjoyed a party that’s a relaxed experience where music shapes taste.

Listen Out is a party, not a festival. It’s the antidote to many of the things you don’t like about big music festivals. You can say goodbye to long hikes to the 12th stage, timetable clashes and spending the day with 50,000 people you can’t relate to.

Listen Out is the right party for the right people.

Fuzzy director, John Wall says; “We see a need for a return to this simple idea: a straight up, quality dance-off in beautiful surroundings. That’s what Listen Out is.”

Listen Out – Australia’s IDM party. Your sanctuary.

LISTEN OUT 2013 DATES AND VENUES:
SYDNEY | Saturday 28 September @ Centennial Park
PERTH | Sunday 29 September (Queen’s Birthday Long Weekend) @ Ozone Reserve
MELBOURNE | Saturday 5 October @ Observatory Precinct, Royal Botanic Gardens
BRISBANE | Sunday 6 October @ Cultural Forecourt, Southbank

Full line-up announcement coming this Friday 21 June.

Tickets from $89+bf on sale midday Thursday 27 June

Speaking of the new record, frontman and producer Alex Ebert says “These songs mean everything to me – It’s the rawest, most liberated, most rambunctious stuff we’ve done.”

Fans around the world have welcomed the first offering from the record – single ‘Better Days’. Ebert’s soulful delivery highlights the nostalgic and hopeful nature of the song, combined with group sing-a-long harmonies and handclaps as percussion.

ESATMZ have always carried a sense of community in their music and live shows. The video accompanying ‘Better Days’ encapsulates this with a series of intertwined scenes from 80’s and 90’s films such as Paris is Burning, Beat Street and Breakin’ 2 Electric Boogaloo. Directed by filmmaker Michele Civetta, the visuals act as an ode to better times, community, love and art.

Watch it here.

After forming in 2007, ESATMZ released their debut album Up From Below in 2009 which features hit single ‘Home’ as well as fan favourites ’40 Day Dream’ and ‘Janglin’. Follow up album Here was released just over one year ago and includes tracks ‘Man on Fire’ and ‘That’s What’s Up’. Since forming, the 10+ piece has toured extensively including appearances at festivals like Coachella, Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza and Australia’s own Splendour in the Grass. Most recently, they toured Australia with acclaimed UK folk-rock band Mumford & Sons.

Australian audiences have also recently shown their fondness for ESATMZ voting in their 2010 breakthrough single ‘Home’ into triple j’s Hottest 100 of the last 20 years at #73.

The fifth annual Rottofest will be a weekend of film, comedy and music, which celebrates the finest musicians, comedy filmmakers and stand-up comedians from across the country, The funniest selected short films (up to 8 minutes) and filmed sketches (up to 3 minutes) will be screened on the island at Rottofest 2013 and judged by a panel of leading industry experts, with two major prizes
awarded:

• FUNNIEST SHORT FILM – $1000 cash prize
• FUNNIEST FILMED SKETCH – $500 cash prize

The winner of ‘Rottofest’s Funniest Short’ in 2012, Melbourne-based director Alethea Jones (Lemonade Stand), has excelled in the Australian film industry since her win. She is now developing several features and is also directing content for esteemed production company, Jungle Boys (A Moody Christmas, Review with Myles Barlow).

“Winning Rottofest’s Funniest Film was a thrill. Rottofest is such a supportive film festival that’s doing wonderful things for comedy. Team Lemonade Stand has had a thoroughly great experience!” said Jones.

This year, filmmakers and fans of comedy alike could also win a VIP package for themselves and three friends to Rottofest 2013 by coming up with a funny idea and submitting a three-panel storyboard. The Rottofest team will be animating the funniest ones online at #rottofest and the winner will be announced in August.

Entry forms for Rottofest’s Funniest Shorts and the storyboard competition are now available for download at www.rottofest.com.au and the deadline for all entries is 16 August 2013.

“Rottofest is the nation’s premier comedy shorts festival. As comedy is the most popular short film and new-media genre, Rottofest provides a vital element in Australia’s film culture” – Tim Ferguson

The complete Rottofest lineup, judging panel, ticketing and accommodation details will be announced shortly.

This guys hits AMBAR tonight so we had a quick chat to him en route to Perth

S&H

To someone who had never heard of you, describe your sound in 4 words.

KK Big Fat Boncey Basslines

S&H Do you think your sounds have changed since the beginning?

KK Yes of course! Music has changed and so have I. Evolving is the point of not just music, but of all life! That said there are still core essences about what I play that will remain the same forever. Bounce and funk being two of them!

S&H If you could play any gig anywhere in the world with any artist dead or living, who would it be with and where?

KK I’d like to travel back in time and go to one of the underground raves in the early 90′s, the gigs that got me into this whole thing. It was such a special unique time that I’m stoked to have been a part of. But one more rave wouldn’t go a stray. I might get the Prodigy up to join me, or Leftfield.

S&H Do you prefer more intimate club gigs or festivals?

KK I love both, boring answer I know but they both have their strengths. At the end of the day I guess it’s about the vibe, not the size of the gig.

S&H Are you playing any of he festivals this season coming?

KK Few things pencilled in but nothing 100% confirmed as yet so I shall have to remain tight lipped

S&H What sort of music are you yourself into?

KK I’m into all kinds – as long as it moves me in some way. I’m a bit of a closet classical music junkie though. I really love it, it fuels my imagination like nothing else.

S&H You’ve moved away from only playing breaks, what inspired the change? Do you think your sounds are better for it?

KK I’d like to think so! Ha ha. I think it’s impossible to stick to only one genre in 2013. It’s nice having a large platter of music to draw from. It reminds me of the kind of gigs I played when I very first started, mashing all different styles.

S&H What can punters expect from your upcoming club tour?

KK A fresh party set of bass line music: electro house, trap, dub step, drum & bass, breaks, whatever! All kinds of bumping beats!

S&H You’ve done a megamix dedicated to Ambar, now it’s relocating what’s your best memory of the place?

KK Every time I play there is special, that’s why I’m gonna miss it so much!!!

S&H My Mum says you can’t start the car without petrol & you can’t start the day without breakfast. What did you have for breakfast?

KK Today I had a smoothie my partner Kelli Prieur showed me how to make. It’s made up of avocado, raw egg, coconut butter, raw cacao, coconut juice, and berries. Bet you can’t tell Kelli is a yoga instructor into ultra healthy eating habits can you? Ha ha. Makes up for my weekends

An additional 2 shows have been added to the tour in Sydney and Perth.

Fans who missed out on tickets in Sydney and Perth will get a second chance to see the band’s highly charged ‘live’ performance of their debut album ‘Home’ that raced into the ARIA charts at number two last month with three top twenty singles – Feel The Love, Not Giving In and Waiting All Night.

In Australia, Feel The Love hit #1 on the iTunes singles and the iTunes dance charts, peaked at #3 on the ARIA singles and national airplay charts and is triple platinum!

Follow up singles Not Giving In and Hell Could Freeze have also helped solidify the and at the top of their game, charting top 15 on the ARIA Singles Chart and being crowned as the most played & requested track on Triple J respectively.

Bursting out of London’s underground music scene with its thrilling world of pirate radio, crude DJ set ups, improvised studios, and bleeding edge beats come Rudimental (Piers Aggett, Kesi Dryden, Amir Amor and Leon Rolle): A pioneering melting-pot collective who have taken the British music scene by storm, championed for their uncompromising approach to music-making whilst avoiding rigid classification.

All of the members have worked with troubled youth and strongly advocate music as an outlet for disadvantaged kids. This attitude was mirrored beautifully in the LA Shorts Festival-winning and MOBO-nominated video clip for Feel The Love. Filmed in the US, the clip is based based around the Fletcher Street Community Horse Riding Centre in Philadelphia which aims to do exactly that.

With a stellar career history spanning 21 years – from 1998’s BRIT Award for Best New Band, through five consecutive UK #1 albums, to last month’s release of their eighth studio recording – Stereophonics have time and again cemented themselves as one of the UK’s greatest rock bands.

Stereophonics acclaimed live performances are peppered with a heady repertoire of international smash singles such as ‘Dakota’, ‘Maybe Tomorrow’, ‘Have A Nice Day’, ‘Superman’, ‘Pick A Part That’s New’ and ‘Mr. Writer’, plus classic album tracks from their superb seven album back catalogue and their latest studio album, the critically acclaimed Graffiti on the Train.

Tickets for this Perth show go on sale 9am Tuesday May 28.
My Live Nation members can access Perth pre-sale tickets from 9am Friday May 24 Sign up at www.livenation.com.au.
All other shows on sale now.

ATLAS GENIUS join Stereophonics as special guests. This follows the rave reviews of their SXSW showcase and a massive two-month-plus debut US headline tour, including two sold-out shows at NYC’s legendary Bowery Ballroom.
Previous tours of the US with bands such as Silversun Pickups, Wolf Gang and Imagine Dragons, teamed with strong performances on major US chat shows Jimmy Fallon, The Tonight Show, Jimmy Kimmel Live and Letterman have propelled the band into the spotlight, earning their debut hit single ‘Trojans’ US sales of more than 250,000. ‘Trojans’ was the first song the then unsigned Adelaide band ever recorded.

After it was distributed online in May 2011 via SoundCloud, Spotify, iTunes and the triple j Unearthed sites, blog Neon Gold’s high praise of the tune and the subsequent enormous buzz lead to plays on MTV’s 120 Minutes and Sirius XM’s Alt Nation channel, and iTunes Single of the Week in Australia and New Zealand.

After signing to Warner Music and releasing their debut EP Through The Glass, Atlas Genius delivered their sophisticated and critically acclaimed album When It Was Now in April this year.

Calling all KLEPHtomaniacs: Boomtick is proud to announce the return to Perth of one of our original Australian crew, BASS KLEPH, on Friday 14 June.

One of the hand-picked few who made the move to LA and are killin’ it, Stu Tyson (aka BASS KLEPH) is a Beatport and ARIA dance chart #1 act and remixer. The Head Honcho of TWO labels, successful pop songwriter and one of the few truly skilled remaining touring DJs – Bass Kleph can do it all. He’s achieved a lot already but today, Bass Kleph is focused on taking live/DJ crossover to a new level. His free-flowing sets open with live jamming on the Native Instruments Maschine sampler, segueing expertly into the kind of DJing you get from an act who has had 12 years behind the decks. Touring Australia and NZ as a teen in a rock band (Loki) gave him early exposure to the dynamic on what makes a crowd dance. A catchy rhythm needs the hypnotism of an irresistible hook and the thunder of a serious rhythm section.

There’s no-one like BK for proving the cliche that the best DJs get the girls on the dancefloor. His single, Make Me Forget – featuring his first-ever vocal performance – has that simple, direct, lighters-in-the-air pop songwriting, inspired by the heartbreak of the end of a relationship – the reason why you see the sisters singing along at every single gig. And beyond that, BK’s been releasing and collaborating with international talent like Wolfgang Gartner, Morgan Page, Andy Caldwell, Mowgli, and his own labels Vacation and Exit Row have been a big part of the LA/Australian crossover, with acts like Tommy Trash, Hook n Sling, fRew and more.

Want a taste? Snap up Klephtomania, his new iTunes podcast series. If you haven’t seen this side of Bass Kleph yet, YOU HAVE TO.

Supported by: Drifter, ShaDDow Brothers, ACEBASIK

Tickets – $20 door sales only

Ambar – Doors open 10pm

Our, and Australia’s, favourite DJ, KID KENOBI, is returning to the Home of the Underground for one last time at the ol’ digs before we move to the new digs. Catch him on Friday 14 June – where else? Ambar. Always Ambar.

In 2003, Kid Kenobi had just become Australia’s #1 Dj and he hit Ambar. The queue was down the alleyway, round the corner and down Murray Street. Ambar was RAMMED from go-to-whoah. 10 years on, it was still one of those Ambar nights. But the Kid ain’t a one-hit-wonder and every time he’s returned to his favourite Australian club since, he BRINGS IT.

Kid Kenobi has done it all. The only step left to take was setting up his own highly successful independent record label Klub Kids – home to Phetsta, Karton, Surecut Kids, Spenda C, Northie, J-Trick, and Conway, as well as Too Fresh and Kid Kenobi himself.

Perhaps the Kids greatest triumph of all is his ability to keep on evolving and growing as an artist. The old crew love him with as much passion as the new crew, proving music trends come and go, clubbers retire, scenes change, and awards gather dust but Kid Kenobi is here to stay.

You’re Obi-Wan’ing already, aren’t you?

Supported by: Tonic, Bezwun, Black & Blunt

Door Sales: $20
